We're excited for all our Team GLUKOS Boston Marathon runners! We're talking today with Becki Iammarino from Suprise, AZ about her marathon experiences.
Can you tell me a bit about your first ever marathon? When was it, which race and race time?
My first marathon was Rock n Roll Arizona in 2005. I just dipped below 4 hours at 3:59:58.
What made you want to run a marathon in the first place?
I mostly wanted to run a marathon for the feeling of self-accomplishment.
What marathon has been your favorite so far?
My favorite marathon has been the Revel Big Cottonwood (this has an elevation loss of over 5,000ft and is where I ran my BQ.
Have you raced Boston before? If yes, what are you most looking forward to? If no, what are you most anxious or excited about?
I have not ran Boston before. I was supposed to run in 2013 (the year of the bombings), and got injured about 3 weeks out. I am excited to get a second chance at this, and finish the goal I set out to accomplish five years ago. Just to be healthy enough to run makes me so grateful.
What tips would you give other runners who want to qualify for Boston?
I would tell anyone who is trying to qualify for Boston to never give up. Enjoy the journey, but at the same time don't try to force something to happen that isn't meant to be. Run with a purpose.
How will you be using GLUKOS before, during or after your run?
Fruit Punch and lemon Glukos gummies will help sustain me for the long wait period before the start of Boston. During, I will use gels during the early miles and gummies right before Newton and Heartbreak Hill(s). Afterwards, Glukos protein bars to help start the recovery process.
Thank you Becki and good luck in your race!
